Yearly Photobook Reflection
2021-03-31

A summary of every year with one photo for each month and other photo series. Intentionally limited the number of pictures to give more meaning to each one and summarize in a concise way.
Since moving away from home, every year I make a physically printed photo book. I don't keep a lot of things, but the experience of printed photos allows more time to reflect than its digital counterpart.
Initially the idea for the book was one photo per month, as a way to summarize the year through thoughtful photos that signified my journey through the year. With digital photos, I felt there was a lack of focus on examining on what makes a photograph meaningful. My criteria was to choose photos that would either reveal a story in my life or have some greater meaning to me.
At first I stuck to just one photo a month. Eventually I started to include pages with a theme of photos. Such as scene of a road in the same framing, or all the mountain ranges I saw that year.
I'm grateful for the yearly reflection that the process gives me, which I think is the main reason I keep coming back to this project. To have a little yearly summary in a small form factor will be something I predict I'll appreciate in the future.
